More than just a meal.
Creating these meals is taking professional cooking technique that chefs use on a large scale and refining it. It’s more than meal prep. It’s more than just a reheatable meal. It’s chef quality food with high attention to detail. It's community connection. It's local, seasonal and sustainable. I love being able to cook food that I'm proud of on my own terms. And everybody deserves a home cooked meal.
Food is comfort.
After Hurricane Dorian, I joined World Central Kitchen in the Bahamas to cook for 10,000 people out of a tent. This was the first time I had directly handed someone a plate of food that I had cooked. Knowing that that person had lost everything, but that what I handed them was a plate of safety and of comfort was so humbling. It was magic.
Some of the best bites I’ve ever had were on the island. I’d be in the trenches with my team, grinding for 10-12 hours. It didn’t matter that we were burned out and exhausted. We knew we had to get the food out no matter what. We had to feed people. And then someone would hand me a plate. I can still taste it now. And because someone made it for me, it meant everything.
It’s so important to take care of people and food does that. Food is the way I do that.
Food is health.
I have my bachelor's degree in nutrition, have been certified as a personal trainer, completed culinary school and have 15 years of experience as a chef. I’ve learned that a lot of people have the misconception that a healthy diet has to be restrictive and flavorless. I get it. I counted calories and carbs for years and years. But once I finally let go of that, I realized that the healthiest way to eat was the way I naturally wanted to. Fresh herbs. Citrus. A huge variety of vegetables. Lean meats. Potatoes, rice, and pasta. The way I cook is light, but still so satisfying.
It’s important for me to eat food that makes me feel good, but it also has to taste good. There is plenty of room for big flavors, great textures, and all of your favorite foods.
There's nothing better than picking up my family's CSA share, being surprised by what ingredients we get, and then turning them into well-balanced meals for the people that I love.
Food is good.
By choosing Herban Harvest, you're choosing to support our community. Not only my small business, but all of the local woman-owned, queer-owned, and/or BIPOC-owned farms and small businesses that I partner with as well. (If you are any of the above, I'd love to partner with you too!)
By working with me, you're choosing to support shopping locally, seasonally and sustainably. And taking care of the environment in a small way every single week.
By working with me, you get to take a little bit of extra ownership in knowing where your food comes from, reducing food waste (one of my least favorite things!!), valuing your community, taking care of your body, and, bonus, you get to eat damn good food in the process!
"By purchasing from Herban Harvest, you're eating better for yourself and for your community. And it's delicious!"
Community.
I want to know the people I cook for. And I want to know where our ingredients come from. Because food really is personal. Food is culture. Food is connection. I partner with local, woman-owned, queer-owned, and/or BIPOC-owned farms and businesses whenever possible. Who we buy from matters. Keeping it in our local community matters.
Sustainability.
I use sustainable packaging, and seasonal and local ingredients whenever possible. There is enough other shit messing up this world.
